I am an ice cream-aholic. In fact I could ALMOST say that my uncontrollable craving for ice cream contributed the most to my weight problems. I could eat an entire container in a matter of days. My husband and I laugh at that Tupperware container designed to keep your ice cream from getting frost bite… Like that would EVER happen in our house!
Here is another spice blend that I find absolutely necessary if you plan to make curry. We bought this blend from the store on a whim, and I use it in all my curries now. I love stir fry. At least I do now, since I discovered 5 spice powder. When we bought this, it transformed my homemade stir fry to a whole new level (remember I can’t cook, hence the big difference one seasoning could make *wink*). We recently went through all our old books and either boxed them up or purged them. One of the areas purged was our cook book collection. I had a full shelf of cookbooks from my mother, Sunset, Better Homes, etc. I only used a select few of those, and only 1 or two had sentimental value. My husband had his own shelf of cookbooks that he inherited as well. So we narrowed down our collections and have now only 1 shelf of cookbooks that we plan to keep for our homestead.

The best use of eggplant I have found so far. I found the recipe here and boy am I glad I did.

When I first started pickling foods, I knew there were methods that didn’t use store bought vinegar. After all, I had fermented foods in my organic chemistry class. We made alcohol, sauerkraut, and root beer. So I knew it could be done. When I tried to look up recipes for pickles, however, all I found were vinegar “quick” pickles.
