Garam Masala – Indian Spice Blend

Here is another spice blend that I find absolutely necessary if you plan to make curry. We bought this blend from the store on a whim, and I use it in all my curries now. It gave my curry such an authentic flavor from what I was used to with just straight curry powder. Continue reading “Garam Masala – Indian Spice Blend”

Green Tomato Curry – Paleo

Its getting to be winter here in California, and we are being left with an over abundance of green tomatoes. I posted recently about canning your left over green tomatoes. In addition to canning them we looked up some recipes for how people use green tomatoes, and then came up with this yummy dish. Continue reading “Green Tomato Curry – Paleo”

5 Spice Powder

I love stir fry.  At least I do now, since I discovered 5 spice powder. When we bought this, it transformed my homemade stir fry to a whole new level (remember I can’t cook, hence the big difference one seasoning could make *wink*). My stir fry actual tasted like real Chinese stir fry, not just veggies doused in soy sauce. Continue reading “5 Spice Powder”

Cream of Asparagus Soup, Paleo

20161022_205314-1.jpgWe recently went through all our old books and either boxed them up or purged them. One of the areas purged was our cook book collection.  I had a full shelf of cookbooks from my mother, Sunset, Better Homes, etc. I only used a select few of those, and only 1 or two had sentimental value. My husband had his own shelf of cookbooks that he inherited as well. So we narrowed down our collections and have now only 1 shelf of cookbooks that we plan to keep for our homestead.

Over the weekend I went shopping and I picked up some asparagus to make some Cream of Asparagus soup. I wanted to make it paleo of course so when I was sitting with my husband, I whipped out my phone and said, “I need to look up a paleo cream soup.” Continue reading “Cream of Asparagus Soup, Paleo”

Canning Eggplant “Tapenade”

The best use of eggplant I have found so far. I found the recipe here and boy am I glad I did.

We recently harvested 15 gallons of eggplant with more on the plants growing! I had to do something with these. I made a small batch of an eggplant “salsa” which I didn’t really enjoy the results that come from that recipe. I also had this recipe. Continue reading “Canning Eggplant “Tapenade””

Fermentation vs Pickling

When I first started pickling foods, I knew there were methods that didn’t use store bought vinegar. After all, I had fermented foods in my organic chemistry class. We made alcohol, sauerkraut, and root beer. So I knew it could be done. When I tried to look up recipes for pickles, however, all I found were vinegar “quick” pickles. Continue reading “Fermentation vs Pickling”

Paleo Spiced Nuts

So I talked on another post about how my husband tries to take food with him over the road (On the Road Trucker Food) and one of my readers suggested making some spiced nuts. I was inspired by this idea, so before he left for his next trip I made some. Boy were they good! Continue reading “Paleo Spiced Nuts”

Paleo Spicy Cucumber Salad With Almonds

A while back I discovered this lovely Cucumber Peanut Salad Recipe from 101 Cookbooks. It was a huge hit with the family and I get requests for it at parties. One problem.. It’s not paleo. Sure, I could fudge it and just eat the peanuts… and it is just a TINY amount of table sugar, right? What’s the harm, eh? Continue reading “Paleo Spicy Cucumber Salad With Almonds”

Paleo Nut Butters

Still trying to kick-start my Paleo lifestyle, I know I feel better, with more energy, happier outlook, (and NO pms!!!) when I follow a paleo diet. The problem…. eating paleo requires allot of planning and more time in the kitchen than a full time employee/full time student/full time mom can squeeze into her routine…

Well I am working on the planning part by accumulating recipes and ideas for foods and food substitutions for some of my favorite – GO TO – food items.

One of which is peanut butter… I love peanut butter… Continue reading “Paleo Nut Butters”
