A few months ago Michael came home with these 5 baby turkey poults. They were so cute, but looked deceptively like baby chickens, so I held my enthusiasm for a bit.
But they have gotten steadily bigger, and even when this little guy had his pasty butt incident, he was still strutting like a big bird.
Now, they are pretty much big enough to go out with the rest of the chickens. Just waiting for them to get bigger so they don’t get picked on. Michael is worried the chickens may try to kill them.
When we were trying to clean out the box, the boy was hissing at us like a cat. It was the weirdest thing I had heard from a bird before. He was pretty annoyed with us for moving him around and penning up “his” flock in a small cardboard box. Going to have to keep an eye on him.
They are much more “wild” than we would have liked, but no one had much time to carry them around in our pockets.
When they are full grown, they should look something like these below.
It’s fun to watch them go through all these phases.
